After a very wet spring and what looks like finally some kind of summer we can get out and about enjoying our local countryside and joining in with events around our areas. So to keep you occupied there is plenty going on. The biggest outdoor event in our county is the Kent County Show at Detling from Friday 7th July — Sunday 9th July. The Hop Farm at Paddock Wood is open all through the summer holidays with lots of activities for all. Or perhaps visit Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation in Eynsford, with Bird displays, Alpaca Trekking, Husky Hiking or Meerkat experiences to name but a few.

For the Tennis enthusiasts, Wimbledon starts on Monday 3rd July — Sunday 16th July. For Cricket fans from Sunday 18th June — Sunday 9h July there is the Cricket World Cup 2023. Only ten teams will play at the tournament. Eight have qualified already. They are: India (as hosts), and New Zealand, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and South Africa (according to results in ODI cricket since the 2019 World Cup). The final two places at the tournament will be decided in the World Cup qualifying tournament being held in Zimbabwe between. This qualifying tournament will feature former winners Sri Lanka and West Indies, plus Ireland, Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Scotland, UAE, USA and Zimbabwe. For the Grand Prix fans we have the British Grand Prix on Sunday 9th July at the Silverstone Circuit
This year, Darent Valley Hospital Charity are busy preparing for the NHS 75 anniversary on 5th July 2023 and as such they have chosen to move this years' Stride4Life to a virtual event. They hope their loyal supporters will still enjoy taking part in a walk for the hospital to raise money for their Stride4Life 2023 Appeal which supports their Cancer Fighting Fund on Saturday 1st July. Don’t for-get Girls, On Wednesday 6th July, sees the annual Babes Ball at Hartley Country Club in aid of Breast Cancer Now. For those golfers Saturday 5th August the Gerbils Golf Society presents their 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Poult Wood Golf Centre in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and Breast Cancer UK. Hope you can attend one or two of these charity events..
