Dear Readers and Advertisers
Bonfire night might be the dampest of damp squibs this year with a horrible bug taking away more of our freedoms than Guy Fawkes was plotting to do. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could catch Mr Covid 19 and put him on top of a big bonfire like we always do with poor old Guido? Sadly that is not possible and we are still having to live with an unseeable beast that is blighting most people’s day to day living and livelihoods. Hopefully we can all make a cheerful Christmas and then the New Year always brings hope and better prospects. Fingers crossed that 2021 sees a return to normality what-ever that in a post Covid world means!

November is lung cancer awareness month. Lung cancer isn’t just a smokers decease and there are many deadly varieties of it. Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer. Alkpositive research is an organisation trying to find ways of making this horrible illness a manageable condition. Show your support and read about how it has affected a family in your local community here: www.alkpositiveresearch.co.uk or like their Facebook page and take part in fundraising. ALK positive cancer effects non-smokers under 50 and with your help it can be turned into a chronic condition rather than a terminal illness.
Churches and many other organisations are feeling the financial effects of the pandemic, especially the loss of revenue from summer fetes and Christmas fairs. The Parish of Fawkham & Hartley has come up with a novel way of offsetting this loss with a bumper Advent raffle. Tickets at £10 each are available now until 1st December from Carole Harris (01474-879368). Your numbers will go into all 24 daily Advent draws until Christmas Eve to win quality donated prizes. Out of adversity come bright ideas. Please support such ventures if you can.
